Back From The Brink Review
Back From The Brink is a costume xianxia drama starring Hou Minghao and Zhou Ye in the lead roles, with special appearances by Yang Rong and Zhang Zhiyao. The drama is adapted from the novel of the same name by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang.
It tells the story of Yan Hui (played by Zhou Ye), a young immortal cultivator who was expelled from her Xuan Sect because she was too rebellious. She originally wanted to live a lazy life of “eating and waiting for death, waiting for money to fall from the sky”, but she was tricked and abducted by the rumored “Evil Dragon” Tian Yao(played by Hou Minghao), and was forced to help him unlock the body seal. The two fell in love with each other after experiencing life and death and finally fought against the ultimate devil together.
Double Loser Hero and Heroine
Just read the synopsis and you will know that the male and female protagonists of Back From The Brink Chinese drama are two losers, which is a little different from the ordinary costume xianxia dramas.

This passage is very philosophical, giving people a feeling of sudden enlightenment. All things in the world are mutual promotion and restraint. Just like in life, no matter how humble or noble you are, you can’t take anything with you after death. Therefore, you don’t need to be too obsessive in many cases. It is easy to go to extremes if you are too obsessed.
Happy Ending of Back From The Brink
In the finale, the truth was revealed. All the conspiracies and machinations were done by Fu Yin, and everyone was a pawn.
Even Su Ying, who was thought to be the main villain in the beginning, was just a poor guy being taken advantage of. She was bad, but also pitiful. Apart from hurting Tian Yao, she didn’t kill innocent people indiscriminately.
She had always upheld the responsibility of exterminating monsters and protecting righteousness, not hesitating to kill her sister Su’e who was swallowed up by the black energy. Before dying, she took the initiative to hand over the dragon heart to Tian Yao to fight against Fu Yin.

It turned out that it wasn’t that he forgot, he just didn’t love her anymore.
And Yan Hui and Tian Yao grew up along the way, healing in both directions.
In the end, the two joined hands to fight against the big devil together.
Luckily the screenwriter didn’t mess up again and gave Yan Hui and Tian Yao a happy ending.
It’s a rushed ending, more like an extra, but at least it’s visually satisfying.
